On Sunday night, Scrappy went out to use the bathroom and returned home limping. He favored his rear left leg, and was in a great amount of pain. He wasn’t his normal self, laying around and avoiding food. His family believed he might have been hit by a car. They reached out to Gateway Pet Guardians for help.

Thanks to our East Side Pet Crisis Fund, we scheduled an appointment at a partner vet to get Scrappy emergency veterinary care. It was clear he had an issue with his leg, but with no other wounds or trauma, we needed to do an x-ray to determine the extent of his injuries. We were very thankful to learn that Scrappy had no broken bones–just a soft tissue injury. He received pain medication and was sent home to recover with his family. When we pulled up to his family’s house, we could hear the excitement–“My baby’s home!” Scrappy was welcomed home with hugs, kisses, and so much love.

Thanks to our East Side Pet Crisis Fund, we were able to help Scrappy and his family during their time of need. This fund is reserved for helping low-income pet parents in the Metro East who need access to emergency veterinary services for their pets. With your help, we can make a difference by keeping pets with their loving owners and out of area shelters. Donate today!
