About Our Facility

Gateway Pet Guardians’ Pet Resource Center is located at 725 N. 15th Street, East St. Louis, IL 62205 in the heart of East Side Pet District. The East Side Pet District (located in St. Clair County, IL) is comprised of six municipalities: East St. Louis, Alorton, Centreville, Cahokia, Washington Park and Fairmont City. Most of our community programming is designed to assist families within the East Side Pet District, although our facility is open to all.

As an organization, we decided in 2015 that we needed to make the move into the community we served. The community needed equitable access to pet services and we knew we wanted to provide them. After many years of looking for the perfect building and location, we purchased the Former Miles Davis Elementary School in March 2019. Until this point, this community has been devoid of pet resources for its 65,000 residents.

The facility is located on Interstate 64/40 at the St. Clair Avenue exit just five minutes from downtown St. Louis. This location was chosen so we could be accessible to anyone wanting to visit from either side of the Mississippi River. Our lifesaving building is 54,000 square feet and is situated on five acres. 

Gateway Pet Guardians Pet Resource Center

This expansive building will be home to multiple key components to increase our lifesaving efforts for pets in the community. Many volunteer opportunities are available for you to help at our facility.

Adoption Center and Shelter Operations

Our adoption center has fourteen canine kennels and one large feline room for adoptable dogs and cats. Visit during our open Hours of Operation so we can help you find your new family member. While our shelter is a comfortable temporary home for our pets, we prefer them to be in a foster home. Therefore, the majority of our pets are off site. The building also supports all of our programming including medical care, foster, training and volunteer.

Healthy Pet Clinic

Equitable access to veterinary care is something every community needs to ensure happy, healthy pets and their people. With the Gateway Pet Guardians Healthy Pet Clinic everyone has the opportunity to receive low-cost vaccines, basic testing and lifesaving preventatives. Gateway Pet Guardians offers resources to qualified families within East Side Pet District. If you are a resident of East St. Louis, Alorton, Centreville, Cahokia, Washington Park or Fairmont City and are in need of assistance with your pet, please call (314) 399-9738.

Pet Spa

Retail

East Side Pet District now has a store for new or gently used pet supplies. Our store is open to the public during our open hours. See Hours of Operation for times that you can visit.
