At Gateway Pet Guardians, we are keeping a close eye on the rapidly evolving events surrounding COVID-19. To limit exposure and keep risk of transmission as low as possible, we are searching for ways to continue to serve our community while still taking precautionary measures.

Despite this pandemic, families still need access to food–and pet owners still need access to pet food. We reached out to our friends at the East St. Louis Township to see how we can support their food pantry through this difficult time. The food pantry distributes food on Wednesdays and Thursdays every week to the Metro East St. Louis community. In February alone, they served 1,418 individuals and 852 households. Many of the families they serve are also pet owners, and they can only supply pet supplies as they are available.

Today, we sent 250 pounds of dog food, 150 pounds of cat food, 120 pounds of kitty litter and a handful of treats to their pantry to support the families that visit their pantry. It was a small gesture, but we hope it makes a difference to families in this time of uncertainty as necessary items are becoming difficult to obtain through stores.

The East St. Louis Township Food Pantry is located at the Clyde C. Jordan Senior Center at 6755 State Street, East St Louis, IL 62201. The pantry regularly accepts donations of non-perishables to share with the community. For more information, call (618) 874-3650.

Gateway Pet Guardians is accepting monetary donations and donated pet food to continue to support these efforts. To send dog or cat food to support the pantry, visit our Amazon Wishlist.
