Saint Louis Rams’ linebacker James Laurinaitis and his wife Shelly joined Gateway Pet Guardians volunteers on the East St. Louis feeding route on December 17th to learn about the organization and get a first hand look at what GPG volunteers do on a daily basis.
James and Shelly’s visit was made possible thanks to Gateway Pet Guardians’ affiliation with Athletes for Animals, a St. Louis-based organization that pairs professional athletes with a passion for pets with local animal rescues and shelters to help raise awareness and funds, ultimately saving more homeless pets.
They rode with us on our feeding route in East St. Louis, saw first-hand all of the strays that we care for each day, and were able to help us rescue two five-week-old puppies, now named Target and Venture. When we returned from our East side adventure, James and Shelly toured the emergency shelter and gave an interview to a film crew from the St. Louis Rams to talk about his day volunteering.
James and Shelly are excellent animal ambassadors and caring pet owners. We hope they continue their involvement with GPG and the St. Louis animal community in the future! For more photos from James and Shelly’s visit, check out the album on Facebook.
