A few weeks ago, we received a call from Ms. Puff’s mom. She was frantic. Her baby was vomiting, had bloody diarrhea, and was acting lethargic. We worked with her mom to take her to our partner veterinarian, Four Paws Animal Hospital, where we ran some tests. Ms. Puff received some fluids and went home that night to await the results.
The next day, Ms. Puff’s health declined. She rushed her to the vet again, where we discovered she had hemorrhagic gastroenteritis (HGE). In HGE, profuse vomiting is usually the first symptom, followed by depression and bloody diarrhea with a foul odor. Progression is rapid and can result in death if not treated. We started Ms. Puff on aggressive fluid therapy to fight her condition. Her mom missed her while she was at the clinic, but was so happy she was receiving the care she needed. After three days of fluid therapy, Ms. Puff was healthy enough to be released and went home with her family that loves her dearly!
