Gingersnap SleepingSometimes it’s the love of a single animal that encourages a family to try fostering. In this case, the beautiful and lovable Gingersnap stole the show. Julie Schroeder and Keith Jones met Gingersnap at the Gateway Pet Guardians Emergency Shelter several months ago, where they fell in love. Gingersnap went into a foster home, and shortly after escaped for a few days. Julie and Keith were a part of the ‘rescue mission,’ and ended up taking her back to the shelter after she was found. But, it made their hearts break to leave her there, so they decided to just take her home.

Three months later, Gingersnap is still living with this amazing family. It’s a great fit, but it’s not always easy. Julie and Keith have been working with Gingersnap on her anxiety. She has her own special welded crate to keep her from hurting herself. However, Julie and Keith have been experimenting with her out of the crate for short periods of time, and are learning that she can be trusted. Gingersnap also goes to doggy daycare once a week to work on socialization with other pups and humans. She LOVES her canine companions and comes home exhausted each time from daycare!

Through it all, it is Julie’s goal each evening to reassure Gingersnap that she is safe, and there is no need to worry while her family is away. And together, they are working to overcome Gingersnap’s anxiety. She is 100% loyal and loving to Julie, Keith, and their pups, and they enjoy every minute with her. She is extremely smart, and they also love her super soft coat of fur. Each day, they fall more and more in love with Gingersnap, and they are determined to find her the most perfect home.

When asked what advice they would provide to someone considering fostering, Julie says this: “Be patient. Some of our pups do not come into homes ready to just be a dog. They have trauma. BUT with time. Training. Love. We 100% BELIEVE that all of our pups can fall into a wonderful routine and be a wonderful pet and companion for someone!”
