Last week, we received a call from a community member concerned about her pup in active labor. Unfortunately, her dog J-Lo had complications and the puppy didn’t make it. Because she is a senior and had such a difficult delivery, we thought it was best to schedule her spay surgery immediately. She went in for spay a few days later.

It turned out the difficult labor also resulted in pyometra, an infection in her uterus. Her low blood cell count meant we needed to monitor her for a bit with fluid therapy and antibiotics. She had to be hospitalized overnight, but quickly bounced back and was well enough for spay surgery the following day. She was spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, and dewormed through our Spay/Neuter Program.

When J-Lo returned home, she was so happy to reunite with her mom, who also decided to spay and neuter the other dogs in the house to prevent the same complications from happening to them. They are on the list to be fixed in the next few weeks!
