We have an exciting announcement! Maddie’s Fund®, a national family foundation established by Dave and Cheryl Duffield to revolutionize the status and well-being of companion animals, has awarded Gateway Pet Guardians an Innovation Grant for $3,000 to be used to save more lives through our networking program.

We have established many incredible partnerships with organizations in the area, because we recognize we cannot intake all of these animals in need. These organizations work to make space and arrange their budget to accommodate the animals when they can, but many require vetting to determine if the animal is a candidate for their organization. With this grant, we will be able to provide the receiving organization with the vetting that they need. This vetting might consist of a heartworm test, a combo test, initial rabies vaccinations and health certificate, etc. We truly believe that providing these services will foster our relationships with partner organizations, enabling more animals needing new homes in our service area to successfully transition into rescue.

Furthermore, this grant also addresses the families we work within our service area that must surrender their pets for one reason or another. We prefer these animals remain in their homes as long as possible and avoid the shelter system entirely, encouraging their owners to act as “fosters” for the pets until we are able to network the animal to a rescue. Thanks to this grant, we can provide vetting while the animals remain with their families to prepare for networking and transfer efforts.

Maddie’s Fund®is a family foundation created in 1994 by Workday® co-founder Dave Duffield and his wife, Cheryl, who have endowed the Foundation with more than $300 million. Since then, the Foundation has awarded more than $225.7 million in grants toward increased community lifesaving, shelter management leadership, shelter medicine education, and foster care across the U.S. The Duffields named Maddie’s Fund after their Miniature Schnauzer Maddie, who always made them laugh and gave them much joy. Maddie was with Dave and Cheryl for ten years and continues to inspire them today.

Maddie’s Fund is the fulfillment of a promise to an inspirational dog, investing its resources to create a no-kill nation where every dog and cat is guaranteed a healthy home or habitat. #ThanksToMaddie.
