Gateway Pet Guardians was recently awarded Petfinder Foundation’s COVID-19 Operation Grant in the amount of $750. This grant was designed to assist the operational needs of animal welfare organizations in an ongoing pandemic.

This gift enabled us to purchase foster and behavioral supplies for 60 pets in our care. The supplies included muzzles and pet correctors to support dogs that lack social skills to feel more comfortable while at the same time, keeping everyone safe in our playgroup and foster daycare program. We also purchased belly bands, cat diffusers and gentle leaders to help with housetraining male dogs, making cats more comfortable in a new environment and improving a dog’s leash skills. Additionally, we were able to purchase latex nursing nipples that provide a more natural feeding experience when bottle-feeding orphaned, newborn kittens.

The Petfinder Foundation works to prevent the euthanasia of adoptable pets by assisting animal shelters and rescue groups across North America. Their grant programs are created to make homeless pets more adoptable by keeping them happy and healthy, to make shelter operations more sustainable, and to aid adoption groups during times of natural or man-made disaster.

This year, we were also a recipient of a $2,500 grant from the Petfinder Foundation and Urban Chestnut for the ‘Raise a Pint for Pets’ campaign. We are grateful for their continued support, especially during this unprecedented time.
