Thanks to support from Best Friends Animal Society, Gateway Pet Guardians (GPG) recently completed an 18-month process to earn Service Enterprise certification through Points of Light which recognizes organizations that strategically utilize volunteers across all departments to meet their missions. The process included an orientation, six training sessions and a diagnostic assessment, as well as the development and implementation of a collaborative action plan to guide our volunteer programming. Since our inception, volunteers have been an integral part of our lifesaving work. With this certification, we are better equipped to align a volunteer’s passions and skills with meaningful positions that have impact.
Additionally, GPG received a 100/100 rating for our fiscal responsibility by Charity Navigator which evaluates an organization’s financial health including measures of stability, efficiency and sustainability, as well as tracking accountability and transparency policies to ensure the good governance and integrity of an organization. Over the next 18-24 months, Charity Navigator plans to roll out three additional performance indicators – Impact and Results; Leadership and Adaptability; Culture and Community. We look forward to the expansion of this comprehensive and revolutionary technology-forward approach that makes effective giving easier for donors and nonprofits.
GPG also achieved the 2020 Platinum Seal of Transparency on GuideStar which helps donors move beyond simplistic ways of nonprofit evaluation such as overhead ratios. To reach this level, we provided in-depth financial information; qualitative information about goals, strategies, and capabilities; and quantitative information about results and progress toward our mission. By sharing metrics that highlight progress toward our mission, GPG has demonstrated its commitment to transparency and to giving donors and funders meaningful data to evaluate nonprofit performance.
